CAKES SPECIAL WEDDING
Owner of Uddingston based Special Days Cakes Michael Burns looks to set break
the record for the largest Wedding Cake in Scotland with his latest
creation. The cake, which measures approximately 13ft in height and built over 15
tiers looks likely to eclipse the previous record and become Scotlands Tallest
Wedding Cake although not officially confirmed at this stage. The idea for such extravagance which was for his own wedding to partner
Stephen Whyteside, was Michaels idea. Since he set the business up over 16
years ago, he has been producing outstanding creations for other couples special
day winning awards along the way. For my own wedding it was expected that the cake would be something special
and I did not want to disappoint anyone, he told The HUB The finished cake, a fruit cake made in the traditional way, contained over
500 sugar thistles and 600 flowers was encrusted with diamonds for the wedding
photo shoot- costing in excess of £100,000 to create. The cake is so tall that the pair needed to stand on a set of ladders to be
able to cut it, and was that heavy that it needed a fork lift truck to lift into
position. It was built on a steel frame to prevent it from collapsing.
Michael told The HUB; it is just like any normal cake just 20 times
larger! And when asked about the record he said; at the moment the
record is held by a company based in Brighton I hope that this can beat it and
bring it back to Scotland! At their wedding, held at Burnhouse Manor in Ayrshire, they both wore
specially designed Platinum Silver Tartan for the big day. We at The HUB
wish them all the happiness in the future.
