Central Scotland MSP Margaret Mitchell attended Hamilton Womens Aid to
present the prizes to her annual Christmas card competition.
Each year, MSPs purchase their Christmas Cards from the Scottish Parliament
which in turn they send out within their constituency. Margaret however,
has not been a keen supporter of the standard card and decided to run a
competition with children in the area.
This year, she approached Womens Aid as domestic abuse is highly topical at
the moment. The children designed their own version of a Christmas card
with Margaret eventually selecting the winning design to use on her cards with
runner up designs being placed on the back of the card.

The winner was Matthew with his snowman themed card, and when asked how he
felt about winning, told The HUB; fantastic. The runners up were Kelly, John
and Erin. They all got a certificate and chocolates, presented by Margaret.
Margaret told The HUB; I would like to thank all of the talented kids who
designed a card this year, and making my job even harder to select a
winner. She continued; I have had a lot of contact with Womens Aid this
year and felt it was only fitting to get them involved in the competition.
The collateral damage in domestic abuse is normally the children and it is
even harder at Christmas.
I am delighted with the winning card and it is nice when you can make a
difference to childrens lives. The competition has been so successful
this year that I am pleased that Womens Aid will be doing it again next year to
raise funds. she said.
The competition was region wide with entrants from Monklands, Falkirk,
Motherwell, East Ayrshire and Hamilton & Clydesdale Womens Aid.
Claire McIntosh from Womens Aid in Hamilton told The HUB; the competition has
been fantastic for the kids who took part and the finished card looks
fantastic.
